Dear Willingdon Families,
Well, we are coming to the end of a very wonderful, and busy, year.
Thank you for supporting the launch of our new PED day program. It has proven to be a resounding success, and one that we are all very proud of. Indeed, we are proud of all of our programs: Extra Curricular, Extended Day and PED Day, and looking forward to continuing to offer them to the Willigndon community.
It is on this note that I want to inform you that I will be leaving the position of Executive Director of the Willingdon EDP as of June 1, 2012. I am excited to be taking on a new challenge as the Executive Director of a community centre in Ottawa.
This has been, while exciting, also a very difficult choice to make, as it is the Willingdon Community that has been my inspiration and motivation since I created the Willingdon EDP (with the hard work and guidance of the Home and School executive) 15 years ago, in 1997.
The EDP is in a very good position to take on the exciting adventure ahead. We have a solid commitment and involvement of more than 20 committee members (and invite you to join). We have also solidified our bylaws; expanded programming; launched a website 2 years ago; have moved to a paperless system of communication; have even launched our evaluations on line with SurveyMonkey; and moreover, because of your support, we have successfully survived, through the global recession.
I believe that it is: the commitment and vision of the committee; the involvement of parents like you; and our very wonderful and dedicated staff and specialists, that makes us special, so special that I often hear of children complaining that their parents come too early to pick them up. Yes, we do sometimes have a chuckle when you arrive early only to have to leave and come back later, because it means that in the eyes of your children we are doing something right, and we intend to continue that standard.
I will remain in regular contact with the committee and executive; as well as the new Director, in a consulting capacity, so we hope to make any transition smooth over the upcoming year.
